I like the 5-purposes “paradigm” (do you call it that?) > worship, evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry. As Christians, we ought to live a balanced life, fulfilling each of the purposes as commanded to us in the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. However, many people bleed through a strong point on one or two of the 5. For example, I know some people who are so passionate that the church should be about learning more about Christ/studying His word (discipleship) while some say that the church should be about helping the poor (ministry) and etc…..
This question was asked to us at the PDYM Leaders Conference and I'm curious to see the diversity of the “specific passions” within our church…
“If you could only pursue ONE purpose for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?”

Yeah, it's a tough one… but there's always going to one or two that we would be so passionate about. I want to share mine, but I want to wait until someone or most have shared theirs.
I'm trying to use this as an informal survey at our church… so if we can get everyone to answer this question, it'll help place people which ministry they probably should be in.

I see the purposes as being sort of interconnected in a way. For example: I believe that ministry (helping people in need) is extremely important for any church, especially to meet the needs of the church body internally. However – developing the servant's heart required for this ministry takes some dedicated discipleship. Once the needs of the church family are being met successfully and consistently it seems likely to me that God would help us to expand the ministry to the community at large, which would be an excellent spearhead for evangelization. None of these tasks would be possible without a core team of people who know, trust and can rely on one another – relationships which are built upon fellowship with one another and God.
So there you go: why do we need to pick just one purpose and stick with it exclusively? I think a well-rounded Church, and a well-rounded Christian, should be involved to varying degrees with all five purposes – though every Christian and Church has their own unique gifts and purposes to play in the overall picture.
I think if i had to pick only one I would want it to be ministry.

There you go… this is where we are heading! I also think the same that we should be well-rounded… we do not need to pick one exclusively, however, we know for sure that every Christian has their OWN UNIQUE GIFTS and PURPOSES (like what you said)… God knows for a fact what we can handle – well and in the most excellent way we can based on our desires, talents, and abilities…. and that's really what I am curious about! Who-has-the-what-gift-kind-of-thing at FCF. Thanks… u still chose one! hahah and I had a feeling it would be ministry for you! Nice. We really need MORE of that at church.
How exciting.

Wow Aaron that was a very thorough answer, well put!!!
Hey Belle you should briefly break down what exactly each of the 5-purposes are. I think Pastor calls them the “five fold ministry”
