Genesis 6:5-7 says…

5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. 7 So the LORD said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them.

Do you think the Lord, in His grieving moments, regret creating human beings?  Question

it kind of seems like it… for example Isaiah 1:4-6 KJV says “Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward…”

However – if God made humans but then regretted doing so, wouldn't that imply that He didn't know beforehand that humans would turn out badly? And if God didn't know in advance what would happen to humans then it would follow that He is not fully omnipotent. That can't be right!

On the flip side: if God created humans with full knowledge of what would happen in the future, i.e. all would sin and fall short of the glory of God, does it not follow that he created humans despite – or even because of – their inherent weaknesses? In which case it would seem that human's sin nature is part of God's plan, which I think would imply that he would not regret his creations being that it's all part of his intelligent design.

I think the second explanation makes more sense, especially in light of verses like Isaiah 2:17 where it goes on to say “And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.” Maybe God created us as imperfect beings so that His own perfection will shine more brightly, in which case it's all part of His plan and no cause for regret.

what do you guys think?

Thumb Up or Thumb Down ?

hmmm interesting question…

I believe that God did not regret making man…In verse 6 of Genesis 6:5-7 it states

Regret can be defined as “To feel sorry, disappointed, or distressed about” (Answers.com). It does not necessarily mean that God wishes the results was different or He made a mistake in creating us because we know that God's ways are perfect Psalms 18:30 (If He did make a mistake that would make God imperfect making Him a liar and not God).

We also know that God has emotions. In the bible, there are numerous times when God shows us His emotion towards events 1 Samuel 15:11. His reget shows us His emotional rection to sin “and his heart was filled with pain”. Especially when the wickidness of man was at such extreme levels.

5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that EVERY INCLINATION OF THE THOUGHTS OF HIS HEART WAS ONLY EVIL ALL THE TIME. [Scary eh?]

Another point is that if we continue reading further to verse 8, only one man was favored in the Lord. And that man was Noah.

8But Noah found GRACE (FAVOR) in the eyes of the Lord. [Genesis 6:8]

Therefore, God did not regret making man because Noah was favored and he was unlike all the rest who constantly dwelled in their sin! So props to Noah!

Thumb UpGreat Job Noah!!

Believing It. Defending It. Proclaiming It.
